    Job Title: Senior Accountant
    Work Location: HFI - Ohio River Boulevard
    Department: Finance
    Reports to: VP, Finance

    HFI Mission Duties:
    • Understand the values and mission of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the Sister’s role in furthering the social teachings of the Catholic Church and embody an appreciation of their work with children and families in the world.
    • Understand and implement the mission, philosophy, and values of HFI helping children and families lead responsible lives and develop healthy relationships. Demonstrates the intrinsic value of each person in all interactions and in making decisions on the job.
    • Participates in special activities and functions of the agency and/or departments.
    • Effectively uses the tools and seven commitments of the Sanctuary Model to further the mission of HFI, facilitating positive outcomes for children and families while creating a safe environment for everyone involved with HFI.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Maintain financial records for assigned Holy Family Institute programs to ensure that they accurately reflect the program’s financial position.
    • Prepare and post journal entries to accurately record transactions for assigned program activity
    • Prepare and review financial statements for HFI programs on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
    • Research and provide explanations for variances from prior period and budget in support of Finance team and Operational leadership
    • Collaborate and support internal customers (e.g., program leadership) in business decisions using financial and key performance data
    • Prepare or review assigned balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis as appropriate and ensure timely follow-up on reconciling items or variances.
    Prepare monthly analysis and maintain accounting subledgers
    • Prepare monthly fixed asset expenditure reports
    • Maintain fixed asset subledger by recording additions, disposals and depreciation
    • Support the accurate accounting for leased equipment using the lease accounting system
    Prepare consolidation of monthly results
    • Prepare monthly consolidated income statements/balance sheets
    • Review and explain variances by comparing to prior month actuals and budget
    • Update and analyze monthly statistical information (for example, billable/nonbillable hours, # of students, # of residents, school days)
    • Collaborate with Finance and Operational leadership to prepare and review monthly budget to actual variance reporting
    • Perform necessary tasks for access, internal controls, administration and monthly/annual maintenance on the financial reporting system (AccuFund)
    Prepare Fiscal Year Budgets
    • Collaborate with finance and operational teams to prepare program and department budgets for revenue, salaries and expenses
    • Ensure that approved budget is entered and spread accurately in the general ledger
    Perform additional duties as assigned

    Work Experience Requirements:
    • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and minimum five years prior accounting experience
    • High degree of proficiency with Windows, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate within and across teams and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing at all levels
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Knowledge of accreditation/regulatory bodies such as COA, DPW, etc.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

    Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with relevant experience
    • Experience with nonprofit accounting preferred
    • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and concepts of internal control and auditing.
    • Expert Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables, Microsoft Office software and accounting software
    • Act 33 and 34 clearances required

    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
    • This position, as a member of the finance team, works on-site five days per week (Monday – Friday)
    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
    • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
    • Must be able to sit for long periods of time operating a computer or attending meetings/trainings
    • Requires working under stress and may require working some evenings and/or weekends
    • Able to deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment
