Vivian Ann Davidson Hewitt Lecture: Dr. Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress
This April, during National Library Week, April 7 – 13, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is proud to announce the establishment of the annual Vivian Ann Davidson Hewitt Lecture intended to honor and celebrate the first Black librarian at CLP, who served the Hill District community in the 1940s. The inaugural lecture will be presented by Dr. Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress, nominated to the position by President Barack Obama in 2016. Dr. Hayden, a former assistant professor for Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, is the first woman and first African American to lead the national library and will be joining us virtually. The Hewitt Lecture is presented in partnership with the Allegheny County Library Association and the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Computing and Information. All attendees are invited to attend a reception following the lecture featuring hands-on activities and opportunities to learn about CLP’s career exploration resources. This event is recommended for adults, as well as middle and high school students.
